User defined V & E ID's - UUID

Do we have the ability to create Edges/Vertex's with user defined UUID. I believe I found a enhancement request for this, however the input is a Long. I would like to extend this to UUID support. While importing a graph from graphML, with the ID's defined as UUID's, the graph is actually created just fine. However when trying to add a V/E grammatically, I run into this limitation. Any advise - thoughts? -gene
