Dear members of the LF AI community,

It is my pleasure to announce that we are holding a half day LF AI community event on August 20, 2019, at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, one day prior to the Open Source Summit San North America. The goal of this event is for LF AI members to meet and discuss the ongoing projects, explore new collaboration opportunities, and provide face-to-face feedback and updates on various Foundation ongoing technical efforts.

Registration for this event is part of the registration process of the Open Source Summit NA: https://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/open-source-summit-north-america-2019/register/

We are looking for speakers on Open Source AI, LF AI projects, etc. If you would like to speak at this event, please contact Jamil Chawki (Chair of LF AI Outreach Committee) who is organizing the agenda.

Thank you very much and hopefully see you at the event,

Hi Everyone,

A short note to let you know that we've uploaded 2 presentations to LF DL's Github account

Under Presentations repo:
- Overview of LF DL - a deck that gives an overview of the foundation
- Getting involved guide - a deck that offers information on getting involved with LF DL and its projects and committees

If you have any suggestions to improve this material, please let us know.

Also, please note that we have an artwork repo that contains LF DL and projects related logos.

Announcing the availability of the LF Deep Learning Interactive Landscape (v1.0)

Ibrahim Haddad

To the Deep Learning Foundation community (via 'tac-general@' and 'main@' mailing lists) --

It is my pleasure to announce the availability of the LF Deep Learning Interactive Landscape (v1.0) available from landscape.lfdl.io (l.lfdl.io) and to open the review and crowdsourcing process via Github

The LF DL Foundation landscape is intended as a map to explore open source AI, ML and DL projects There are 2 modes to view it: Interactive and Landscape. Under the Landscape tab, you will be able to see the 7 main categories of open source projects in the AI/ML/DL space:
  • Distributed Computing
  • Notebook Environment
  • Data
  • Model
  • Machine Learning
  • Deep Learning
  • AI Fairness and Human Rights
Each of these categories is further divided in sub-categories where the open source projects are featured. This is by no mean a comprehensive landscape and we need your help to grow it and make it as complete as possible.

Our goal is to drive the review and crowdsourcing process of this landscape and grow it to become a great tool in support of our efforts. To add/update categories/projects or fix any issues, please open a pull request in Github. Please read the README.md file for detailed instructions.

This landscape is built by forking the CNCF's LandscapeI would like to express my gratitude to the CNCF for pioneering this landscape and open sourcing it, and to the various CNCF staff for their incredible support in making this AI/ML/DL landscape.

Looking forward to feedback and requests via Github mechanisms.
Thank you,

Ibrahim

This is a quick message to give you an update on the LF Deep Learning Foundation and invite you to a presentation by members of the ONNX Project tomorrow morning, 9:00 am ET, August 2.

The work of LF DL is well under way, and we have a number of exciting announcements planned for the community in the coming days and weeks.  With respect to our first project, the Acumos AI Project (an AI workflow and model discovery platform) – code has been publicly available for several months, and work on the next release (November 2018) continues.  Sub-committees have been established, and we are now hosting 15-20 Acumos project meetings per month. If you are interested in contributing, or just want to get a feel for the project’s progress, I encourage you to visit wiki.acumos.org and look through the TSC (technical steering committee) pages.

Within LF DL, the committee responsible for coordination and communication with LF DL projects is the Technical Advisory Council, or TAC.  The TAC meets every two weeks, and our next meeting is tomorrow. The TAC is currently conducting a review of various open source formats for AI models, and we are very pleased to have guest presenters from Microsoft’s development team focused on the ONNX (Open Neural Network Exchange) Project presenting to us at tomorrow’s meeting. If you are interested in AI model formats, I encourage you to attend tomorrow’s call. For those of you that cannot make the meeting, we are planning to record the presentation.

Thank you, and please reach out with any questions. Dial-in instructions for tomorrow’s TAC meeting and ONNX presentation follows. Regards,

Deep learning is machine learning or you can consider deep learning as a subset of machine learning.
